Dr Shisong Jiang is an Oxford University research group leader in the Department of Oncology, and the CTO of Oxford Vacmedix, which has developed a technique to grow overlapping peptides in bacteria, to use for cellular immunity vaccines.
What is your main area(s) of interest/expertise?
I am an immunologist specialised in viral infections and tumours. My research area includes antigen presentation and vaccine development.
What are you working on right now?
We have developed a new vaccine technology – recombinant overlapping peptides. I hope this technology would be useful for developing SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.
We are also developing a T cell-based diagnostic kit for the assessment of cellular immunity of SARS-CoV-2 infected patients.
Lastly, we are trying to develop a cartridge-like medical device which can absorb toxic materials in the SARS-CoV-2 patients with fatal cytokine storms.
Why is Oxford a good place to work in this field of research?
People and network; state-of-art facilities; supportive environment.
