Areas of interest
I work in an area called multi-agent systems. The goal is to build computers that can cooperate with each other; that can work as teams on our behalf. I make use of ideas from game theory in understanding how we might do that.
What makes Oxford such a good place to work in AI?
Diversity. We have AI across the whole collegiate university, from people thinking about the philosophy of AI, right through to teams building driverless cars. Whatever bit of AI takes your interest – and it is a big field – there will be someone at Oxford to talk to. We have one of the world's biggest AI groupings, right here.
What is the biggest opportunity or challenge in AI?
The single biggest opportunity right now, I think, is healthcare – AI really has the opportunity to be transformative here, over the next three decades. AI will be able to give people personalised feedback on their health on a day-by-day basis, and has the potential to get decent healthcare out to places that are just unimaginable at present.
