What makes Oxford such a good place to work in AI?

Oxford has world-class researchers working on the theoretical foundations of AI as well as its applications. This provides a fertile ground for collaboration, particularly with departments that can use AI in an interdisciplinary manner to inform and contribute to their field.

What is the biggest opportunity or challenge in AI?

Like other enabling technologies before it, such as electricity and the internet, AI is going to be a fundamental change in how our society and civilisation functions. Both the challenges and opportunities in AI lie in ensuring that this capability is used for the public good. Opportunities for AI include smarter social and technical systems which can assist in healthcare, governance and sustainable development, alongside increasing efficiency and productivity of our existing systems. The challenges are of doing so while maintaining privacy, resolving algorithmic bias issues, and jobs displacement from automation, alongside creation of ethical codes of conduct on AI for industry and nation states.
