Oxford University is hosting AI@Oxford, a 500-delegate conference on artificial intelligence that looks to showcase the University and region’s research and innovation strength to the wider world, at Oxford’s Saïd Business School on 17 and 18 September 2019.

AI@Oxford will be split over three streams, demonstrating the breadth of activity in this area: technology and applications of AI; AI in healthcare; AI in society. Sessions will include keynotes, standard panel sessions, fireside chats, TED-style talks, showcase sessions, and a Question Time-style debate. Each of the sessions is being curated by an Oxford voice who leads in the field, with support from Oxford University Innovation, the University’s innovation arm, and business development teams from across the University.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Michael Wooldridge, Professor of Computer Science, Oxford University
  • Chris Bishop, Director at Microsoft Research, Microsoft
  • Gina Neff, Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute, Oxford University
  • Nick Bostrom, Director of the Future of Humanity Institute, Oxford University

They will be joined by 100 speakers on AI – a mixture of academic and industry voices from within Oxford University and beyond. Delegates will also have the opportunity to engage with AI spinout and startup companies from the Oxfordshire region, with ample networking opportunities including facilitated networking tables and one-to-one matchmaking.

The conference is focused on engagement and is aimed at a broad audience of corporates, investors (angel, seed, venture capital, corporate venture capital and others), research bodies, government, media, academics, startups and spinouts, and entrepreneurs and innovators who want to know what’s hot in the vast world of AI and how to engage with one of the leading centres for AI globally.

AI@Oxford takes place as part of a week of AI-related events around Oxford, which include a conference on the ethics of AI organised by 100 Brilliant Women in AI and Oxford University social enterprise ORBIT on 16 September, a series of art installations inspired by AI, focused AI workshops, and more.

Professor Chas Bountra, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Innovation at Oxford University, said: “There are few hotter topics than AI, and few hotter places to discuss it than Oxford. Drawing heavily on Oxford’s global network, we’ve curated a world-class lineup of speakers on AI which will get right to the core of what’s hot in AI, how we can use it to live healthier lives, and what impacts AI will have in society. This is a serious look at AI, without the hype and pyrotechnics, hosted by the world’s number one university – and one not to be missed.”
