What makes Oxford such a good place to work in AI?

Oxford has an eclectic community of world-leading researchers in many topics related to AI, with particular strengths in the computational and statistical underpinnings of machine learning.

What is the biggest opportunity or challenge in AI?

Recent advances in machine learning and the availability of large volumes of data offer unprecedented opportunities to address societal and environmental challenges and to improve public services. However, in applications where data-driven decisions can potentially have life-changing effects on individuals, existing methodologies are only the first step – in order to ensure their reliability, fairness and transparency, fundamental understanding of the underlying mechanisms behind the data will be needed. This calls for a blend of the existing techniques with bespoke statistical modelling, causal reasoning, and principled uncertainty quantification.
