Christophe joined the Big Data Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine in 2016 as Senior Group leader in Pathogen Dynamics. His research has included epidemiological and mathematical modelling for outbreaks including SARS, H1N1pdm, MERS and Ebola. He is the Principal Investigator for a number of HIV pathogen genomics programmes including HPTN071, PANGEA II, and BEEHIVE. Christophe spent a number of years previously working as Professor in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at Imperial College London.

What is your main area(s) of interest/expertise?

I am interested in studying the population dynamics and epidemiology of pathogens, and translating this knowledge to public health policy and practice; my research covers themes such outbreak response, treatment as prevention, drug resistance and genomics.

What are you working on right now?

Co-lead for Oxford’s COVID19 mobile contact tracing app programme, working as a senior scientific advisor to the National Health Service. Our group is providing epidemiological and mathematical modelling to support the design and development of the NHS digital contact tracing programme.

Why is Oxford a good place to work in this field of research?

Oxford has a critical mass of researchers working on many aspects of infectious disease control, we can draw on this expertise to find the most innovative and effective public health solutions to respond to pandemics such as COVID19.
