Professor Green heads the Nuffield Department of Medicine's Clinical Biomanufacturing Facility (CBF). She is the Monsanto Senior Research Fellow at Exeter College, Oxford and an Associate Professor at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, Oxford.

What is your main area of interest/expertise?

Professor Green specialises in creating vaccines for clinical trials. Over the last 15 years, the CBF team has made many novel vaccines for first in human trials, covering diseases including malaria, TB, influenza, MERS, Zika, rabies, plague and Ebola (among others).

What are you working on right now?

Currently, my team and I are an integral part of the university’s project to develop a ChAdOx1 vectored vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19, in record time, for global pandemic prevention deployment (now in partnership with AstraZeneca).

Why is Oxford Uni a good place to work in this field of research?

As an academic facing manufacturing facility we can take on higher risk projects at very early stages of development in order to be able to respond very rapidly to emerging situations.

We are embedded within a university community that comprises expertise in early stage research right through to the ability to manage late phase clinical trials.   Being independent and grant funded/not for profit, we are also free to build broad partnerships and collaborations (as was seen in the COVID-19 vaccine project) in creative ways.
