Dr Cassidy Nelson is a doctor with a clinical and communicable disease public health background working in biosecurity research at the Future of Humanity Institute whilst separately undertaking a DPhil in Prof Michael Bonsall's Mathematical Ecology Research Group. Her main research interest is in novel pathogen outbreaks and how future pandemics can be prevented.

What is your main area(s) of interest/expertise? 

Clinical medicine, pathology, epidemiology, biosecurity policy.

What are you working on right now? 

I am working on a COVID-19 study based in the UK community which is investigating three types of diagnostic tools with a particular focus on nanopore sequencing as a pathogen-blind way of detecting novel pathogens.
