Life sciences teaching and research at Oxford University has been ranked as the world's best in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The rankings, released on Thursday 29 October, are based on 13 criteria measuring teaching, research, industry links and international outlook, providing a well-regarded comparison of universities worldwide.

The first place complements that awarded to Oxford for its clinical, pre-clinical and health subjects, confirming the University as a world-class research centre delivering benefits for the UK and the wider world.

Professor Donal Bradley, Head of the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division, said: 'We are delighted that the life sciences at Oxford have been ranked top in the world. This reflects the excellence of the staff in our Departments of Zoology and Plant Sciences and their outstanding achievements in teaching and research.'

Professor Alastair Buchan, Head of the Medical Sciences Division, said: 'I’m delighted to see today's THE  subject rankings for life sciences. Oxford’s demonstrated strength across both the life and medical sciences is a real achievement.  I congratulate my colleagues in our life sciences departments for all their hard work and commitment in achieving the first place position in the World University Rankings.'
